Mmm, mmm, flax
I have been wanting to get flax into my diet for a while. The gurus say that flax is a great source of omega-3s, the fatty acids that we’re supposed to get more of, and flax is also a phyto-estrogen, which may have beneficial effects for some womanly things (like PMS).
However, flax oil goes rancid really quickly, and there’s been a link suggested between supplements and prostate cancer (not that I have to worry about that).
OXO flax grinder So I finally got a chance to pick up OXO’s flax grinder (pictured).
For around $10, you get a refillable grinder filled with organic flax seeds. For around $7, you can get an empty grinder and put the spice of your choice in it.
I bought the former, and now my morning oatmeal gets several healthy grinds of flax. I’m thinking of doing the same thing with walnuts. Yummy…oatmeal, dried cranberries, flax, walnuts, cinnamon, and just enough brown sugar to make it interesting :).
